My UX Process

I recently created a short guide summarising Lean UX and Design Sprints methodologies, outlining how I effectively apply them to solve user problems. The guide focuses on:

  • Lean UX: Streamlining design processes, validating assumptions early, and integrating user feedback into rapid iterations.

  • Design Sprints: A step-by-step framework to quickly prototype, test, and refine solutions in just 5 days.

It’s ideal for product design teams seeking to streamline their UX approach, optimise problem-solving strategies, and improve team collaboration. I have recently rolled it out at WithU, across four design teams. Downloadable here.

Case Study One: Re-design of the WithU app home screen

  • Lean UX Approach: Followed a Lean UX process with multiple rounds of user testing to create a user-centric product

  • Purpose of Daily Sessions: The 'Daily Sessions' feature was initially designed to help users quickly access workouts without browsing

  • User Feedback: Users reported the home screen felt overwhelming due to an excess of choices

  • Behavioural Analysis: 80% of all workouts completed in the app were through the 'Daily Sessions' feature

  • Strategic Decision: Decided to hero the 'Daily Sessions' feature and make it the focal point of the home screen to simplify the user experience

  • Design Process: The redesign took place over three design sprints (three weeks) and is now in development

Case Study Two: Onboarding Flow for 0-1 Product, WithU Coach

  • Problem Definition & Research: The process began by defining the problem, researching target users' needs, and analysing competitors to understand pain points and motivations

  • Hypothesis Development: I formulated assumptions, hypothesising that a streamlined, personalised onboarding would improve engagement and retention

  • Wireframing & Prototyping: I then created low-fidelity wireframes to map out a simple, intuitive flow for gathering user preferences and goals

  • Iterative Design (Rapid Prototyping): Using Lean UX principles, I iteratively developed and tested prototypes, refining the flow with each version

  • User Testing (Continuous Feedback Loop): I conducted rounds of user testing to gather feedback on usability, clarity, and satisfaction, leading to ongoing refinements

  • Validation: Staying flexible, I made changes where needed based on user feedback to enhance the onboarding experience
